From 2010, Olivier Ochanine’s contract with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra has brought about various premieres of works including, among others, Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4 and Aladdin Suite, Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, Honegger’s Pastorale d’Eté, Bartok’s Two Pictures, and Dvorak’s Czech Suite. Highlights of the PPO seasons under Ochanine include critically acclaimed performances of Verdi’s Requiem, Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and Mahler’s 1st Symphony.
Praised for his expansive repertoire and enthusiasm for creating wide ranging programmes of less-known works by successful composers, Ochanine has also been credited for greatly improving the level of the PPO’s playing. Under Ochanine, the PPO has made its first recording in over a decade. Ochanine places a high value on audience development and has established himself as an ambassador for the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, with regular promotion appearances on local TV and radio stations and frequent interviews for Manila newspapers. Guest soloists appreciate Ochanine’s ability to lead orchestral accompaniment with sensitivity. Ochanine has been offered a contract extension through 2014.
